The Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) has recorded another significant achievement, ranking 11th among Nigerian universities and placing in the 1501+ category globally in the 2026 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings.
The new ranking represents a steady improvement from FUOYE’s 12th-place position in the 2025 edition, reflecting the institution’s ongoing progress in academic excellence, research output, and innovation. FUOYE shares the global 1501+ category with several notable Nigerian universities, including Babcock University, Delta State University, Ekiti State University (EKSU), FUNAAB, FUTO, LAUTECH, LASU, OAU, UNIBEN, FUTA, UNIZIK, UNICAL, and UNIPORT.
Reacting to the development, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina, commended the university community for their hard work and dedication, attributing the achievement to “strategic planning, quality research, and innovation-driven initiatives.”
The Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olubunmi Shittu, also praised the efforts of staff and students, describing the ranking as “a testament to FUOYE’s commitment to research excellence and impactful community engagement.”
Similarly, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (SPRIL), Professor Joshua O. Ogunwole, noted that the university’s rise in the rankings reflects the success of its strategic focus on three key areas enhanced research productivity, expanded international collaboration, and innovation-driven teaching.
In a joint statement, the Director of Academic Planning, Professor Babatunde Omotosho, and the Director of Innovation and Digital Technology, Professor O. S. Ayanda, acknowledged the role of the University Committee on Innovation and Digital Technology and the Director of ICT, Mr. Samson Durojaiye, for their contributions to the data submission process that ensured FUOYE’s successful participation in the rankings.
FUOYE’s consistent advancement underscores its reputation as one of Nigeria’s fastest-growing and forward-thinking universities. The institution has, in recent years, strengthened research infrastructure, expanded industry partnerships, and embraced digital transformation to foster innovation and academic excellence.
The recognition by Times Higher Education reaffirms FUOYE’s standing in the global academic community and reinforces its mission to drive knowledge, innovation, and development in Nigeria and beyond.
