The Federal Government has announced plans to establish a Research Institute for Wheat Production and a Wheat and Livestock Farm at the Federal University of Agriculture, Mubi, in Adamawa State. This initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision for education and agriculture.
The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, disclosed this during a meeting with key members of the Mubi Sabondale Development Association. According to Dr. Alausa, the Research Institute and farm will help advance the nation’s agricultural capacity and leverage its potential to boost GDP.
Dr. Alausa expressed gratitude to the community and the Sabondale Development Association for their generosity in welcoming the university. “Their generosity—donating homes, furniture, event centres, and more—exemplifies the spirit of unity and selflessness,” he said. “The Mayo Bani community is a shining example of what it truly means to be ‘One Nigeria.'”
The Minister highlighted the importance of scaling up agricultural production to meet growing demands. “With the rising global demand for wheat and other crops, it is imperative that we scale up our agricultural capacity and leverage this potential to boost our GDP,” Dr. Alausa stated.
The Federal University of Agriculture, Mubi, was established in 2024 to meet the nation’s growing need for agricultural expertise. Nigeria’s diverse climates, temperatures, and biodiversity make it highly viable for extensive crop production.
The Research Institute for Wheat Production and the Wheat and Livestock Farm will build on Mubi’s history of wheat and cattle production. This initiative aims to cultivate the next generation of agricultural experts and advance the nation’s agricultural mission.
Dr. Alausa thanked the members of the Mubi Sabondale Development Association for their visit and looked forward to continuing engagement in support of the initiative. “I thank the members of the Mubi Sabondale Development Association for their visit and look forward to continuing our engagement in support of this important national initiative,” he said.
The establishment of the Research Institute and farm highlights the government’s commitment to promoting agriculture and education. This initiative is expected to have a positive impact on the nation’s economy and agricultural sector.
