Implemented by the Nasarawa State Government, the initiative provides financial support to help families keep their daughters in school and reduce dropout rates. Beneficiaries in Keana, Doma, Awe, Kokona, Lafia, Wamba, and Nasarawa LGAs have received ATM cards loaded with stipends to offset education-related expenses.
For many parents, the intervention has brought much-needed relief.
“We are deeply grateful to AGILE and the Nasarawa State Government for coming to our aid,” said Mrs Martha Okuba, a parent in Doma LGA. “This support has eased the burden of school expenses and will help our children continue their education without interruption.”
Another beneficiary, Mallam Ogri Musa, described the initiative as “a blessing to poor families,” adding that it would help ensure that girls stay in school and complete their studies.
Under the CCT scheme, each beneficiary receives ₦40,000, comprising ₦15,000 for registration and ₦25,000 for transition, alongside a ₦10,000 incentive for maintaining at least 70 per cent attendance in the second and third terms.
State Project Coordinator, Hajiya Aishatu Aliyu Isoga, said the initiative was designed to empower girls through education while reducing financial strain on families. She explained that ATM cards were issued directly to beneficiaries and their caregivers, while school principals were tasked with verifying student identities to ensure transparency and accountability.
According to the AGILE office, 10,539 girls have already benefited from the programme in the first cohort. Encouraged by the positive outcome, preparations are underway for the second phase, which will cover 35,000 girls across Akwanga, Obi, Nasarawa Eggon, and Keffi LGAs.
Community leaders and parents have commended the project’s impact and urged the government to sustain and expand it.
“Education is the key to our daughters’ future, and this scholarship is opening doors we never thought possible,” said a group of caregivers in Lafia.
The AGILE project is part of the state’s broader effort to promote inclusive education and empower adolescent girls through targeted financial and institutional support.
