Kaduna State University (KASU) on Monday hosted a regional Aviation Career Awareness Campaign organised by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), exposing students to diverse career paths within the dynamic aviation sector, including piloting and cabin crew services.
The campaign, held on December 1, 2025, aimed to bridge the gap between academic study and professional life, emphasising safety and career readiness for university students.
Welcoming participants to the event, Azeh Benjamin, the Regional Manager of the NCAA, introduced representatives from Columbia State University. Mr. Benjamin underscored the necessity of preparing students for life after graduation, urging them to actively engage with career counsellors present at the event.
In his remarks, Prof. Muhammed Kabir Dauda highlighted the NCAA’s central role in ensuring aviation safety across Nigeria and its commitment to informing the youth about career opportunities within the industry.
Piloting and Cabin Crew Focus A major highlight of the campaign was the session led by Haruna Nura Suleiman, a certified pilot and flight instructor. Mr. Suleiman provided attendees with a historical overview of aviation, beginning with the pioneering work of the Wright Brothers, before explaining that a pilot’s foremost responsibility is ensuring safety during flight. He introduced current student pilots as real-world examples of future professionals in the field.
Following this, Edward S. Jonathan, a cabin crew member, clarified the correct professional terms for his role, “cabin crew” or “flight attendant.” Mr. Jonathan discussed the critical responsibility of the cabin crew in maintaining passenger safety and comfort, noting the accessible training requirements for entry into the profession.
As the campaign concluded, attendees reported leaving with a significantly broader understanding of the diverse technical and service opportunities available in aviation, inspired to explore these professional paths further and envision their future roles in the dynamic industry.
