The Commissioner for Education in Akwa Ibom State, Mrs. Idongesit Etiebet, has suspended Dr. Nse Sunday Umoh, the Principal of Presbyterian Senior Science College, Ididep, in Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area, following concerns over substandard meals served to boarding students at the school.
The suspension follows the circulation of a disturbing video on social media showing students being served unappetizing and inadequate meals.
Etiebet stated that she visited the school unannounced and was alarmed by the situation and ordered a thorough investigation into the conditions of the school’s boarding facilities, including hostels, dining halls, and kitchen operations.
Although the state’s free education policy covers only tuition fees, Mrs. Etiebet emphasized that the welfare and dignity of students, especially those in public schools, remain a top priority for the Umo Eno-led administration, calling on parents to support their children by fulfilling basic parental responsibilities, as the government continues to relieve them of the burden of tuition fees.
She urged the public to remain patient as we complete this investigation as the state Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, remains dedicated to improving education in the state.
