The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) at the Federal University Oye Ekiti branch has called on the Minister of Education to investigate allegations of sexual harassment, victimisation, and governance irregularities against the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Abayomi Fasina. The petition, signed by SSANU officials Benjamin Faleye and Ayomikun Aluko, details claims made by former Director of Works and Services Engr. Mrs. F. Adebayo of harassment and victimisation by the Vice-Chancellor.
SSANU also highlighted concerns about Prof. Fasina’s governance style, including alleged abuse of office, financial mismanagement, and improper staff appointments. They called for the minister to intervene and ensure due process in staff appointments and welfare policies, including appointing qualified non-teaching staff to lead relevant units.
The petition also raised issues of financial mismanagement under Prof. Fasina’s leadership and the appointment of teaching staff to non-teaching unit leadership positions, in violation of university regulations. SSANU emphasized the need for an independent investigation to restore confidence in the institution’s governance.
The union’s submission to the immediate past Governing Council Chairman raised concerns about intimidation and administrative recklessness, and they urged the minister to address these pressing issues. Relevant documents supporting the allegations were attached for the minister’s review and action.
SSANU expressed confidence in the minister’s office to address the concerns and restore professionalism, accountability, and harmony at Federal University Oye Ekiti.
