The Governing Council of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) has approved the appointment of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Professor Olubunmi Shittu, as the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the institution.
The decision was reached during the Council’s 7th emergency meeting, which was held virtually on Monday, April 14, 2025.
According to a statement issued by the University Registrar and Secretary to Council, Mr. Mufutau Ibrahim, the appointment follows a formal request by the substantive Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abayomi Fasina, to proceed on his accumulated annual and research leave.
“The Governing Council of FUOYE, at its 7th emergency meeting held online on Monday, 14th April 2025, considered the request of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Fasina, to proceed on his accumulated leave and approved six months, equivalent to 126 working days, out of his total leave entitlement of 228 days, with effect from Monday, April 14, 2025,” the statement read in part.
While the university’s statement did not provide further details, Fasina’s decision to step aside comes amid reports of sexual harassment allegations which, as of the time of filing this report, have not been officially addressed by the institution.
The Council subsequently ratified the appointment of Prof. Shittu, the most senior among the three Deputy Vice-Chancellors, to serve in acting capacity for the same period.
Prof. Shittu is expected to oversee the affairs of the University for six months pending the return of the substantive Vice-Chancellor.
