Oba Adedokun Abolarin, the Òràngún of Òkè-Ìlá-Òràngún, has been making waves in the education sector with his establishment of Abolarin College, a free college dedicated to fighting poverty through education for indigent students in Nigeria.
Born on September 24, 1958, into the Obasolo Ruling House, Oba Abolarin obtained his First Degree in Political Science from the University of Ife (formerly University of Ife). He later pursued a Law Degree and set up his own practice after leaving the Nigerian Law School.
Before his installation as the Òràngún of Òkè-Ìlá, Oba Abolarin worked as a legal adviser to Senator Anyim Pius Ayim, the then Senate President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He was also the principal partner of Dokun Abolarin & Co., a firm of Solicitors and Legal Consultants.
According to reports, Oba Abolarin’s firm served as Company Secretary to various corporations, including Tell Publications (Publishers of Tell Magazine), Pacific Holdings, Peachtree Communications Ltd, Sportsmark International, and Springtime Development Foundation.
Oba Abolarin is an academic authority on Nigerian government and politics, having researched and written on the period from the 1914 amalgamation to recent times. His work evaluated component elements of federal, regional/state, and local government administration, analyzed Nigerian foreign policy, political parties, and pressure groups.
At his installation, Oba Adedokun Abolarin chose the “reign name” Aroyinkeye I, which translates to “one who finds honey to tend the title”. This reflects his commitment to serving his people and promoting development in his kingdom.
As the Founder of Abolarin College, Oba Abolarin teaches Government as a subject to Senior Secondary students and instructs them on styles and etiquette. The school is dedicated to providing education to indigent students, with the aim of fighting poverty.
Oba Abolarin’s contributions extend beyond education. He is a member of the 15-member committee of the Osun State Directorate of Amotekun, a security network aimed at curbing insecurity in Western Nigeria.
The monarch’s commitment to civic responsibilities is evident in his role as a member of the teaching staff at Abolarin College. His culture of teaching, counseling, and mobilizing everyone for civic responsibilities has made a significant impact.
