The Federal Ministry of Education, through the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), has granted a significant upgrade to the PEFTI Film Institute, accrediting it to offer five new National Diploma (ND) programmes. This approval marks a pivotal moment in the institute’s history, recognizing its consistent excellence and commitment to quality technical education.
The approval comes on the heels of a remarkable achievement: PEFTI was named Best Innovation Enterprise Institution in Nigeria for two consecutive academic sessions, 2023/2024 and 2024/2025, at the National Tertiary Admissions Performance–Merit Awards. This dual recognition underscores the institution’s growing influence and reputation in Nigeria’s educational landscape.
The newly accredited ND programmes include Business Administration and Management, Fashion Design and Clothing Technology, Mass Communication, Multimedia Technology, and Music Technology. These additions reflect PEFTI’s strategic focus on equipping students with skills aligned with contemporary industry demands, fostering entrepreneurial growth, and enhancing career opportunities in creative and technical fields.
Speaking on the development, Abiola Adenuga, Registrar of PEFTI, hailed the accreditation as a major milestone in the institute’s over two decades of dedicated service. “For 21 years, PEFTI has remained committed to educating and empowering youths across Nigeria and beyond. This upgrade is a testament to our dedication to quality education, industry-relevant training, and global-standard facilities,” Adenuga said.
He emphasized that the new programmes will open broader avenues for young Nigerians to build careers, create opportunities, and contribute to the growth of entrepreneurial and creative industries. “It opens even bigger doors for young people to build careers, create opportunities, and shape the future of entrepreneurial and creative industries,” he added.
Founded in 2004, PEFTI Film Institute is a multiple award-winning institution renowned for its innovation and skills-based training. The institute currently operates campuses in Ajao Estate, Lagos State, and Ibadan, Oyo State, and has carved a niche in providing technical and creative education.
Education stakeholders have welcomed the NBTE approval, noting that it strengthens PEFTI’s position as a leading institution for technical, creative, and entrepreneurial education in Nigeria. The upgrade is expected to expand access to nationally recognized qualifications, empowering more young Nigerians with the skills needed in today’s dynamic job market.
The new programmes are designed to meet critical gaps in sectors such as media, fashion, business management, and digital technology, positioning PEFTI graduates for success in both local and global industries. Experts believe this will further boost the institute’s appeal to prospective students seeking practical, career-oriented education.
This accreditation reflects the institute’s alignment with national educational priorities, particularly in promoting technical and vocational skills essential for Nigeria’s economic diversification and growth. It also highlights the Federal Ministry of Education’s efforts to enhance the capacity of tertiary institutions to deliver industry-relevant training.
By offering these programmes, PEFTI Film Institute continues to affirm its mission of producing job-ready graduates and fostering innovation through excellence in technical and creative fields.
The institute’s management and faculty expressed optimism that the new programmes will catalyze greater achievements, cementing PEFTI’s role in shaping Nigeria’s educational and economic future.
As PEFTI embarks on this new chapter, stakeholders, parents, and prospective students are encouraged to leverage these opportunities to acquire skills that drive personal and national development.
