The Cornerstone Insurance PLC Foundation has partnered with the Lagos Food Bank Initiative (LFBI) to provide food to school children in underserved communities across Lagos State. This initiative, launched on Valentine’s Day, underscores the company’s commitment to social responsibility and improving child nutrition in Nigeria.
The initiative benefitted three schools: Divine Wisdom, Idera Oluwa, and Debby and Frank, all located in the Agege area of Lagos State. These schools, which cater to children from low-income backgrounds, received food supplies aimed at enhancing student well-being and academic performance.
Speaking at the Lagos Food Bank Initiative headquarters in Ikeja, the General Manager of Cornerstone Insurance Plc, Charles Nwachukwu, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to making a meaningful impact on society.
“We are proud to be part of this initiative, which ensures that children, especially those from underprivileged backgrounds, feel included and cared for this Valentine’s season. There is no better way to express love than by giving back to our communities. At Cornerstone, our slogan for this period is ‘Show Love with Insurance,’ reinforcing our dedication to positively affecting lives,” Nwachukwu stated.
Similarly, the Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications at Cornerstone Insurance Plc, Cordelia Ekeocha, highlighted the company’s long-standing commitment to humanitarian causes.
“Since 2013, we have partnered with various NGOs to uplift communities. Our foundation’s logo—a caring hand—symbolizes our unwavering dedication to making a difference. Through initiatives like this, we hope to improve lives and foster hope among vulnerable groups,” Ekeocha explained.
LFBI’s Executive Director, Dr. Michael Sunbola, praised Cornerstone Insurance Foundation’s support, emphasizing the long-term impact of such partnerships in the fight against hunger.
“Malnutrition and food insecurity remain major challenges in Nigeria, particularly among children. Through programs like the Education Enhancement Intervention for Food-Insecure Students (EDUFOOD), we aim to improve nutritional intake and school attendance. With the support of partners like Cornerstone, we can expand our reach and create lasting change,” Sunbola stated.
The EDUFOOD program, a flagship initiative of the Lagos Food Bank Initiative, focuses on enhancing student health and academic performance by providing nutritious meals to children in low-cost primary and secondary schools. Studies have shown that hunger and poor nutrition significantly affect cognitive development, concentration, and school attendance. By addressing these challenges, LFBI and Cornerstone Insurance Foundation are fostering a healthier and more educated future generation.
Cornerstone Insurance Plc Foundation (CIPLCF) serves as the corporate social responsibility (CSR) arm of Cornerstone Insurance Plc, championing initiatives that uplift communities and promote societal well-being.
