Kebbi State Governor, Dr Nasir Idris, has approved the release of N422.1 million for the payment of registration fees for 6,127 indigenous students enrolled in the 2024/2025 academic session.
The intervention covers students of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, and the Federal University, Birnin Kebbi.
Commissioner for Higher Education, Isah Abubakar-Tunga, disclosed this at a press briefing in Birnin Kebbi on Thursday. He said N211.6 million was paid for 3,922 students of the Federal University, Birnin Kebbi, while N210.4 million was disbursed for 2,205 students of Usmanu Danfodiyo University.
Abubakar-Tunga added that arrangements were underway to settle registration fees for Kebbi indigenes studying in other tertiary institutions across the country.
He commended Governor Idris for prioritising education, describing the gesture as a strong commitment to human capital development.
“This support is a major relief for thousands of families and a clear indication of the governor’s resolve to invest in the future of Kebbi State,” the commissioner said.
