Miss Aisha Nna Muhammed, a student of the Department of Biotechnology at the Federal University Lokoja (FUL), is set to represent Nigeria at the prestigious World University Games (FISU) scheduled to take place in Germany. Her qualification for the international competition follows a remarkable performance at the FISU trials held at the University of Jos, where she emerged as the winner in both the 800m and 1500m races.
Aisha’s rising profile in university athletics earned her a one-year scholarship from the University, in recognition of her outstanding performance at the 2024 African University Games a move that reflects the institution’s commitment to rewarding excellence in sports.
In a brief reception held on Monday, the Vice-Chancellor of FUL, Professor Olayemi Akinwumi, welcomed Aisha alongside the University’s Director of Sports, Mr. Ilori George Adebayo, and other officials. While congratulating her on the international feat, Professor Akinwumi encouraged Aisha to be a worthy ambassador of both Nigeria and FUL, urging her to strive for success at the global event.
“A new and promising chapter of your life journey has unfolded,” he noted. “Make the best out of it.”
The Vice-Chancellor also seized the opportunity to inspire other students to work hard and excel in sports, assuring that the University will continue to provide a supportive environment that nurtures student-athletes. He reiterated the administration’s dedication to recognizing and rewarding students who demonstrate excellence in sports, in line with FUL’s holistic approach to education.
The recognition of Aisha’s talent and her qualification for the global stage underscores the University’s growing investment in sports development. It also highlights the institution’s commitment to producing well-rounded graduates who excel both academically and athletically.
As Aisha prepares to compete against the world’s best at the upcoming World University Games, she not only carries the aspirations of her University but also the hopes of a nation proud to be represented on the global sporting stage.
