The Federal Government has declared Tuesday, July 15, 2025, as a public holiday in honour of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, who passed away recently.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, following the approval of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR. The declaration aligns with the seven-day national mourning period previously announced by the President, which began on Sunday, July 13, 2025.

He called on Nigerians to use the day to reflect on the former president’s legacy and to promote values he championed peace, patriotism, and national cohesion.
As part of the mourning observance, all national flags are to be flown at half-mast for the duration of the seven-day period.
The Federal Government also extended condolences to the late president’s family, the people of Katsina State, and the nation at large, while offering prayers for the peaceful repose of his soul.
The announcement was formally signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani.
