Kwara State University (KWASU) has officially handed over two petrol-engine vehicles, now successfully converted to run on electric power, to the Kwara State Government. The presentation was made to the Ministry of Business, Innovation, and Technology on Thursday, August 14, 2025, marking a significant milestone in the state’s push for sustainable technology.
A Landmark in Local Innovation
Professor Kenneth Adeyemi, Chairman of KWASU Hold-co, presented the vehicles on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh. He described the project as a “success story” that will promote environmental sustainability and deliver economic value.
“Kwara State University is a veritable centre of excellence for technology and innovation, and this seamless conversion is a Proof of Concept of technological and innovative possibilities,” Professor Adeyemi remarked.
He extended gratitude to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for entrusting the university with the project, which allows KWASU to demonstrate its capacity for impactful societal contributions.
The university confirmed that operational and maintenance manuals are prepared and that it is ready to train the drivers assigned to the vehicles. Professor Adeyemi also assured that the remaining vehicles in the project are scheduled for delivery by September 2025.
Government Commends Initiative
Receiving the vehicle keys, the Commissioner for Business, Innovation, and Technology, Damilola Yusuf Adelodun, commended the KWASU team for their hard work and successful execution of the conversion.
She expressed her satisfaction with the quality of the work, reinforcing the collaborative spirit between the state government and the academic institution.
The ceremony was attended by key officials from both the university and the ministry, highlighting the project’s importance to the state’s development agenda.
