The Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai (IBBUL), has signed a historic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Sanskaram University, Jhajjar, Haryana, India, aimed at deepening academic collaboration, staff and student exchange, and advancing research across key disciplines.
The agreement was formally announced during the 101st Regular Senate Meeting of IBBUL, where the Vice Chancellor, Professor Hadi Sulaiman, described the development as a major milestone in the University’s pursuit of global partnerships.
Professor Sulaiman commended Dr. Musa Emmanuel Umaru, Head of the Department of Sociology, for initiating and facilitating the collaboration that led to the signing of the MoU. He praised the gesture as “a rare demonstration of dedication and selfless service to the growth of IBBUL”, adding that the partnership would bring immense benefits in staff training, student exchange, and collaborative research.
In recognition of the partnership, Professor Sulaiman was decorated with the regalia and muffler of Sanskaram University by Dr. Umaru, on behalf of the Indian institution’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Chander Prakash.
Speaking on the scope of the collaboration, Dr. Umaru explained that his initial visit to India was centered on a community-based academic engagement. However, upon identifying opportunities for wider cooperation, he initiated discussions with Sanskaram University, which resulted in the formal MoU.
He disclosed that the partnership would open new frontiers in forensic criminology, medical education, law, and technology-driven approaches to addressing security challenges.
“Sanskaram University’s state-of-the-art facilities and expertise will complement IBBUL’s strengths, creating a robust platform for impactful research and academic innovation,” Dr. Umaru said.
He further revealed that both institutions have already set up **joint committees** to fast-track the implementation of the agreement, with concrete outcomes expected soon in the form of joint projects, exchange visits, and shared academic resources.
The Vice Chancellor urged members of the University community to emulate Dr. Umaru’s initiative, stressing that the collaboration aligns with IBBUL’s strategic goal of expanding its global reach and enhancing its academic profile.
The partnership is expected to yield long-term benefits not only for IBBUL but also for Niger State and Nigeria at large, as the two institutions leverage their strengths to deliver innovation-driven education and research solutions.
