The Federal University of Agriculture and Development Studies, Iragbiji (FUADSI), Osun State, is set to officially take off with five foundational faculties, marking a significant milestone in Nigeria’s educational landscape. The institution, which was recently established by the Federal Government, is designed to serve as a hub for agricultural innovation, research, and development studies that will drive national progress.
Faculties Announced
At its commencement, FUADSI will run with the following five faculties:
- Faculty of Agriculture
- Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences
- Faculty of Renewable Natural Resources
- Faculty of Animal Production and Management
- Faculty of Social Management and Development Studies
These faculties were carefully selected to reflect the university’s mission of producing graduates with both scientific knowledge and practical skills for solving critical national challenges.
University’s Mission and Vision
According to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mufutau Olaoye Atayese, FUADSI is not just an academic centre but a citadel of innovation and service. Its vision is to integrate agriculture, science, and social development into a unified curriculum that equips students with the tools to address issues of food insecurity, environmental degradation, and socio-economic imbalances.
Blending Theory with Practice
The Vice-Chancellor further emphasised that FUADSI will offer practical, hands-on experiences to its students alongside theoretical instruction. The university intends to produce graduates who are problem-solvers, innovators, and leaders in their chosen fields. Research and community engagement will form the backbone of its academic delivery system.
Commitment to Sustainable Development
As a forward-looking institution, FUADSI is fully committed to promoting sustainability and global best practices. The university will adopt modern technology and innovative methods in agriculture, renewable resources, and development studies. This approach ensures that graduates are not only competitive locally but also on the global stage.
Partnerships and Collaborations
To strengthen its foundation, FUADSI is building partnerships with industries, government agencies, and international organisations. These collaborations are expected to enrich teaching, enhance research, and create opportunities for students to engage in real-world problem-solving.
A Vibrant Academic Community
In his welcome address, Prof. Atayese invited students, parents, and stakeholders to explore FUADSI’s vibrant academic community. He described the institution as a future-focused environment where “knowledge meets innovation for sustainable progress.” The Vice-Chancellor assured prospective students that FUADSI is a place where dreams of transforming society through education can be realised.
Federal Ministry’s Confirmation
The Federal Ministry of Education has confirmed that the university is on track to begin academic activities in October 2025. This confirmation followed a recent facility inspection by a delegation from Abuja, signalling the government’s strong support for the new institution.
Facility Assessment Visit
The facility assessment team was led by Mrs. Rakiya Ilyasu, Director of the University Education Department. During the visit, the delegation inspected critical infrastructure at the university’s Administrative Block, Takeoff Site, and Permanent Campus, assessing their readiness for academic takeoff.
Government’s Assurance
Mrs. Ilyasu assured the university management and the people of Iragbiji that the government was fully committed to ensuring FUADSI becomes a model university. She noted that the establishment of FUADSI aligns with national priorities of enhancing food production, promoting research, and reducing youth unemployment.
Strategic Location in Iragbiji
The choice of Iragbiji, Osun State as the location for FUADSI is seen as strategic. The community is rich in agricultural potential and provides an enabling environment for the type of research and development activities that the university aims to pursue. This is also expected to bring socio-economic growth to the host community.
Students’ Prospects
With its carefully selected faculties, FUADSI promises to open new doors for students aspiring to careers in agriculture, science, renewable resources, and social development studies. The institution aims to produce graduates who are versatile and employable, capable of contributing meaningfully to Nigeria’s development goals.
Website and Public Access
The university has also launched its official website, https://fuadsi.edu.ng/, where prospective students, staff, and stakeholders can access detailed information about academic programmes, admission processes, and institutional updates. The website serves as a digital gateway into the university’s mission and vision.
As preparations gather momentum, the launch of FUADSI represents a beacon of hope for Nigeria’s higher education sector. With its unique focus on agriculture and development studies, the university is expected to produce graduates who will play key roles in addressing Nigeria’s food security challenges, advancing renewable energy, and driving sustainable development both locally and globally.
