The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has approved more than N2.5 billion for the Federal University of Transportation Daura (FUTD) as part of its 2025 intervention cycle.
Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Umar Adam-Katsayal, disclosed the development in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Daura.
According to him, the allocation covers critical areas of institutional growth. A total of N1.3 billion has been earmarked for physical infrastructure and programme upgrades, while N240 million will be directed towards academic staff training and development.
Other allocations include N150 million for ICT support, N185 million for library development, and N170 million for staff conference attendance. Research activities are set to receive N100 million, project maintenance N180 million, and entrepreneurship centres N85.5 million. In addition, N100 million will be invested in career centres and units, while journal publication and manuscript development were allocated N25 million each.
Beyond academic funding, Prof. Adam-Katsayal revealed that the university has introduced a cooperative society to help staff acquire homes within five to ten years. He also urged private investors to partner with the institution in developing residential housing around the campus, noting that the initiative seeks to prevent staff from retiring without personal accommodation.
The Federal University of Transportation Daura, established to strengthen Nigeria’s transport sector, is among the newest beneficiaries of TETFund’s nationwide intervention programme.
Earlier in August, TETFund announced it had received a record N1.6 trillion in 2025—the highest in its history. The fund, generated through a 3% education tax on company profits, is being channelled into infrastructure, healthcare training, renewable energy projects, student support, and security upgrades across the country. Of the total, N460 billion (40%) was allocated directly to universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.
With the approval, FUTD joins other higher institutions positioned to benefit from TETFund’s expanded support aimed at improving Nigeria’s tertiary education landscape.
