The Honourable Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education in Sokoto State, Professor A. L. Ala, has received a delegation from the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto (UDUS) Digital Innovation and Entrepreneurship Hub (UDIE Hub), led by former Director of the university’s ICT Centre, Ahmad Isa Chafe.
The courtesy visit, held at the ministry’s headquarters in Sokoto, focused on exploring partnership opportunities to enhance digital literacy and computer training for teachers and students across the state.
Speaking during the visit, Chafe explained that the UDIE Hub seeks to collaborate with the ministry in building the digital capacity of both educators and learners, especially as the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) prepares to introduce Computer-Based Testing (CBT) for Senior Secondary School (SS3) examinations. He stressed the importance of early preparation to ensure that Sokoto students and teachers are adequately equipped for the shift toward digital examination systems.
In his remarks, Professor Ala commended the UDUS team for the initiative and expressed the ministry’s willingness to partner with them. He described the proposal as a timely and strategic step toward modernizing education in the state, adding that “the world is rapidly moving into the digital age, and we must not be left behind.”
The commissioner further reaffirmed the commitment of the Sokoto State Governor, Dr. Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto, FCNA, to transforming the education sector, noting that the administration remains “ever ready to change the history of education in Sokoto State.”
The meeting was attended by several top officials of the ministry, including Abubakar Umar Salame, Director of Administration; Abdulrahman Jafar, Director of Basic Education; Dr. Bashir Gada, Director of Resource Centre; Yusuf Jabo, Chairman of the Education Implementation Unit; Bello Mode Gagi, Deputy Director, Donor Agencies; and Murtala Abubakar Shagari, Deputy Director, Senior Secondary Schools.
The visit concluded with a mutual agreement to initiate further discussions toward formalizing the proposed collaboration and developing a comprehensive digital training framework for schools in Sokoto State.
