The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Professor Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has congratulated veteran photojournalist, Mr. Kayode Okunola, on his conferment with a Merit Award by the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN).
Mr. Okunola, a seasoned photojournalist with the Nigerian Pilot newspaper, will receive the award on Friday, October 31, 2025, during an event in Abuja marking the 60th anniversary of SWAN.
In a statement issued by the University’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr. Kunle Akogun, Professor Egbewole described the award as well-deserved, citing Mr. Okunola’s professionalism, consistency, and dedication to excellence over the years.
The Vice-Chancellor noted that Mr. Okunola has competently covered major events across Kwara State for more than three decades, making him “a walking library of the state.”
Professor Egbewole also expressed appreciation for the veteran’s longstanding support for the University of Ilorin, acknowledging that his photographic work has significantly contributed to promoting the institution’s positive public image.
He further wished Mr. Okunola continued success and fulfillment in his career, commending him for his invaluable contributions to journalism and sports reportage in Nigeria.
