A total of 1,576 students will graduate from Bingham University, Karu, in Nasarawa State as the institution sets for its 6th convocation ceremony scheduled for Saturday, November 15. The announcement was made during a press conference held on Tuesday at the university campus, where the management outlined key achievements and the academic profile of the graduating class.
According to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Haruna Ayuba, this year’s convocation reflects the institution’s steady academic growth and its commitment to producing graduates equipped for global competitiveness. He revealed that 82 students earned first-class degrees, an accomplishment he described as “evidence of hard work, discipline, and the university’s commitment to academic excellence.”
In addition to the first-class category, the Vice-Chancellor stated that 464 students will graduate with second-class upper division, a classification he noted as highly significant, considering the rigorous academic standards maintained by the university. He emphasized that the quality of this year’s results reinforces Bingham University’s reputation as a centre for excellence.
Also, 260 students secured second-class lower division, while 40 students will be graduating with third-class degrees. Professor Ayuba noted that these figures represent the diverse academic performance of the graduating set and reflect the institution’s objective assessment system. He further disclosed that two students obtained pass degrees, the lowest classification for the academic year.
A major highlight of this year’s convocation is the graduation of 268 Medical Doctors, a figure the Vice-Chancellor celebrated as a milestone for the College of Medicine. He stated that the university remains one of the leading private institutions in Nigeria producing a steady stream of medical professionals despite the national challenges confronting the health sector.
The Vice-Chancellor explained that Bingham University continues to invest in modern training facilities, medical laboratories, and clinical partnerships to strengthen medical education. He added that the institution’s College of Medicine has become increasingly competitive and continues to attract students across the country.
In addition to undergraduate degrees, 460 postgraduate students will also be awarded various advanced degrees during the ceremony. Professor Ayuba highlighted that the postgraduate school has seen significant expansion, with increasing enrolment in Master’s, PhD, and professional programmes aligned with national development needs.
He noted that the university has prioritized research-driven education, ensuring that postgraduate candidates contribute to knowledge advancement in their respective fields. Ayuba emphasised that Bingham University remains committed to producing graduates capable of solving real-world problems through research, innovation, and professional expertise.
Speaking further, the Vice-Chancellor expressed appreciation to the teaching and non-teaching staff for their dedication throughout the academic year. He described the combined efforts of the university community as instrumental to the achievements recorded ahead of the convocation ceremony.
As preparations heighten for Saturday’s event, Bingham University says it is ready to host parents, friends, alumni, and dignitaries who will gather to celebrate the accomplishments of the 1,576 graduating students.
