A high-level delegation, led by the Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum Mni, FNSE, paid an appreciation visit to philanthropist Dr. Muhammadu Indimi on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, in recognition of his significant ₦2 billion donation to the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID).
The donation, described by stakeholders as a landmark investment in education, drew wide praise across the state and brought together key leaders from government, the university community, and the traditional council.
The delegation underscored the broad impact of Dr. Indimi’s support on both the university and the wider community. It included the current Vice-Chancellor of UNIMAID, Professor Mohammed Laminu Mele, and three former Vice-Chancellors: Professor J. D. Amin, Professor Mala M. Daura, and Professor Aliyu Shugaba.
Other dignitaries present were members of the Borno Elders Forum, the representative of the Shehu of Borno, the Chief Imam of Borno, several Commissioners, the Head of the Borno State Civil Service, and the Chief of Staff to the Governor.
Speaking during the visit, Governor Zulum commended Dr. Indimi’s long-standing commitment to education in Borno State, the country, and internationally. He stated that the ₦2 billion contribution would significantly strengthen UNIMAID’s capacity to deliver quality education, especially at a time when tertiary institutions are grappling with financial pressures.
In his response, Dr. Indimi expressed his gratitude for the visit and reaffirmed his commitment to supporting education across Borno and beyond. He highlighted that the progress and future of young people remain central to his philanthropic work.
Dr. Indimi also expressed his hope that the contribution would inspire further investments in the sector, including supporting the Borno State University and the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.
