The Students’ Union Government (SUG) of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) has assured all students that every FUOYEITE will receive an official university identity card, describing the development as a first of its kind in the institution’s history.
In a statement issued under the leadership of the “Better Days Cabinet,” the union said it had received several complaints over the past weeks about departments and departmental associations allegedly demanding payment from students for identity cards.
Addressing the issue, FUOYESUG stated unequivocally that the procurement of student ID cards is the sole responsibility of the university management and not that of any department or student association. The union stressed that students already pay for the ID card through the school portal and should therefore not be required to pay for the same item again.

“It is unfair and unacceptable for any student to be made to pay twice for the same ID card. Such actions will not be condoned,” the statement said.
While acknowledging that delays in the production and distribution of ID cards in previous years had caused difficulties for students, the SUG assured that the situation has improved. According to the union, discussions with the university authority have yielded assurances, and efforts are ongoing to ensure timely delivery.
FUOYESUG disclosed that students’ ID cards are expected to be ready before the first semester examinations, adding that no department should demand payment for any form of ID card. The union further directed that any student who has already made such payments should be refunded in full.
The statement was signed by Comrade Adio James I., President, Comrade Alao Ayorinde S., General Secretary, and Comrade Abiola David T., Public Relations Officer, and dated December 12, 2025.
