Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, has officially announced a change in the date for its 2025/2026 matriculation ceremony, shifting the event from Tuesday, December 16, 2025, to Thursday, January 15, 2026.
In a notice addressed to members of the university community, the management explained that the ceremony will still hold physically and within the same time frame of 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., but with carefully structured arrangements to ensure orderliness and smooth coordination.
According to the announcement, the matriculation will take place at the OAU Amphitheatre and will be conducted in three batches, covering both undergraduate and postgraduate students across the university’s faculties.
Batch A, scheduled for 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., will comprise students from the Faculties of Administration, Arts, and Law. This batch will officially open the ceremony and usher in the newest members of the OAU academic community.
Batch B will follow immediately from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., featuring students from the Faculties of Agriculture, Basic Medical Sciences, Clinical Sciences, Dentistry, Education, and Science.
The final segment, Batch C, will run from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., with students from the Faculties of Technology, Computing Science & Engineering, Pharmacy, Social Sciences, and Environmental Design and Management taking their matriculation oath.
University authorities noted that the staggered arrangement is aimed at effective crowd control, proper seating, and ensuring that the ceremony is conducted in a calm and dignified atmosphere.
The notice further clarified that the communication serves as an official invitation to all affected students, staff, and stakeholders, urging fresh students to take note of their batch allocation and arrive promptly for the ceremony.
Matriculation remains a significant academic tradition at Obafemi Awolowo University, formally admitting new students into the institution and binding them to its rules, values, and academic culture.
Students are therefore advised to make adequate preparations, adhere strictly to the schedule, and comply with all university guidelines to ensure a successful and memorable matriculation ceremony.
