The 61st Congregation of Bayero University, Kano (BUK), has commended the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Haruna Musa, FSI, for what it described as a remarkable transformation recorded by the institution within the first four months of his administration.
Members of the Congregation, comprising academic and non-teaching staff, at the meeting held on Saturday, January 24, 2026, praised the noticeable improvements in staff and students’ welfare, academic development, and the renewed drive towards academic excellence under the Vice-Chancellor’s leadership. Professor Musa received a standing ovation from the congregation in recognition of the reforms and positive changes witnessed across the university.
Speaking as Chairman of the Congregation, the Vice-Chancellor disclosed that Bayero University, Kano, emerged as the best university in Nigeria in terms of international visibility and the third best overall in the country in the 2026 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings.
Professor Musa also announced plans for the construction of 500 housing units for staff, to be implemented in partnership with the Federal Mortgage Bank, describing the initiative as part of deliberate efforts to improve staff welfare and enhance productivity.
He further highlighted a number of national and international collaborations secured by the university, including a landmark partnership between BUK and Chinese institutions for the establishment of a China–Africa Joint Key Laboratory for Advanced and Applicable Agricultural Machinery and Equipment. According to him, the collaboration is expected to strengthen research capacity and promote innovation in agricultural technology.
Members of the university community expressed satisfaction with the pace and direction of the administration, describing the vice-chancellor’s leadership as impactful despite the short period. They urged the university management to sustain the momentum to consolidate the gains recorded so far and further position BUK as a centre of academic excellence.
