The Federal Government has intensified efforts to secure schools across the country under its Safe School Initiative, following a high-level visit by the Minister of Education and the Minister of State for Education to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Abuja. The visit was aimed at strengthening inter-agency collaboration, deepening coordination, and assessing the operations of the National Safe Schools Response Coordination Centre (NSSRCC).
According to the Ministry, the courtesy visit provided an opportunity to review the progress made so far in implementing school safety frameworks nationwide. The delegation inspected facilities at the National Safe Schools Response Coordination Centre, a strategic hub designed to monitor, coordinate, and respond to threats affecting educational institutions across Nigeria.
The Federal Ministry of Education, through the Federal Ministry of Education Nigeria (FME), has formally partnered with the NSCDC to enhance the protection of learners and educational infrastructure. Central to this collaboration is the deployment of a real-time school safety tracking system, which allows authorities to monitor schools, identify vulnerabilities, and coordinate rapid response mechanisms where necessary.
Officials disclosed that the NSSRCC portal already has thousands of schools onboarded nationwide, with ongoing efforts to integrate more public and private institutions into the system. The tracking platform is expected to improve data-driven decision-making and ensure faster intervention in cases of emergencies, insecurity, or infrastructural threats within school environments.
The Ministry reiterated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to ensuring that every Nigerian child regardless of background or geographic location has access to safe and inclusive learning spaces. Education authorities emphasised that safeguarding schools remains a top national priority, particularly amid ongoing security challenges in parts of the country.
Stakeholders and members of the public seeking further information about the initiative are encouraged to visit the official website of the National Safe Schools Response Coordination Centre at NSSRCC.gov.ng for updates, resources, and school onboarding details.
