The Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission, Abdullahi Yusufu Ribadu, has inaugurated a high-level committee to develop an Information and Communication Technology–Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Blueprint for Nigerian universities.
The inauguration, which took place on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, marks what Ribadu described as a transformational step toward strengthening the Nigerian University System. He emphasised that countries that have achieved significant industrial and technological progress have done so on the foundation of strong STEM education.
Charging members of the committee, Ribadu urged them to undertake a thorough review of existing frameworks, identify critical gaps, and propose practical, evidence-based strategies with measurable outcomes. According to him, the goal is to produce globally competitive graduates equipped as innovators, problem solvers and job creators.

The committee is chaired by former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Oluwatoyin Ogundipe. Other members include Professors Emenugha Acho (Physics), Bashir Aliyu (Agricultural Engineering), Adamu Mohammed Alkali (Mathematics), Edu Jenson Mba (Analytical and Industrial Chemistry), and Stella Ngozi Nwosu (Education Technology and Structural Design).
Its mandate covers the design of a comprehensive STEM implementation strategy for the Nigerian University System, as well as the development of medium- and long-term plans, with particular attention to improving female participation in STEM disciplines.
The committee is also tasked with establishing a Labour Market Observatory to ensure university programmes are aligned with evolving industry demands. Additionally, it will review pilot proposals from 10 beneficiary institutions and monitor the implementation of the ICT–STEM Blueprint.
Speaking on behalf of the committee members, Ogundipe described the assignment as pivotal to repositioning Nigerian universities for the future. He pledged the committee’s commitment to collaboration and to delivering a sustainable and impactful Blueprint capable of advancing innovation and competitiveness across the sector.
