Authorities of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) have conducted an election that produced new leaders for the institution’s Students’ Union as part of ongoing efforts to restore the union’s activities on campus.
The election, held on Friday, March 6, 2026, produced the Students’ Union President and General Secretary for the 2025/2026 academic session.
The exercise was coordinated by the Directorate of Student Affairs under the leadership of the Dean, Johnson Agunsoye, and took place at the Common Room of Moremi Hall within the university.
According to the university, the election was conducted among the current faculty presidents in line with the transition guidelines designed to facilitate the gradual restoration of the Students’ Union.
At the end of the voting process, Bolaji Akinpelu from the Faculty of Arts emerged as the Students’ Union President after securing nine votes.
Daniel Solomon of the Faculty of Computing and Informatics was also elected as the General Secretary, receiving nine votes in the election.
Speaking after the exercise, Agunsoye said the process fulfilled the commitment earlier made by the Vice-Chancellor, Folasade T. Ogunsola, to ensure the return of the Students’ Union in the university.
He explained that the restoration of the union is intended to provide students with a platform to express their views while also preparing them for leadership roles and encouraging responsible participation in governance.
