The University of Abuja has commenced construction of a 1,152-bed female hostel through a Public-Private Partnership with Royal Dynasty Homes Ltd, aimed at addressing accommodation challenges on campus.
The groundbreaking ceremony, held today, was attended by university officials, students, and representatives of the private partner.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Hakeem Babatunde Fawehinmi, said the project is a critical step toward reducing the gap between the university’s growing student population of about 40,000 and the less than 7,000 students currently housed on campus.
“This new hostel will help bridge part of the accommodation deficit and improve the welfare of female students,” Fawehinmi stated.
The MD/CEO of Royal Dynasty Homes Ltd, Igbekele Aremo, expressed gratitude for the partnership, pledging to deliver a modern, safe, and world-class facility for students.
Speaking on behalf of the students, the Student Union Government President, Yusuf Jamiu Tobi, commended the initiative and assured the support of the student body throughout the project. “Improved accommodation will positively impact student welfare and academic performance,” he said.
The hostel, once completed, is expected to significantly increase on-campus housing capacity for female students and enhance the overall campus living experience.
Construction of the facility marks a major step in the University of Abuja’s ongoing efforts to provide safe and adequate infrastructure for its growing student population.
