The University of Jos (UNIJOS) has postponed examinations originally scheduled for Monday, March 30, and Tuesday, March 31, 2026, following a violent attack on the Angwan Rukuba community in Jos North Local Government Area.
The decision was announced on Monday by Emmanuel Madugu, the Deputy Registrar in charge of Information and Public Relations.
According to the statement, the Vice-Chancellor directed that all affected examinations be rescheduled to ensure the safety of students, staff, and residents, amid heightened tensions in and around the area.
The move also comes as part of a broader suspension of academic activities and closure of hostels within the university.
The attack, which occurred on Sunday night, involved unidentified gunmen on motorcycles targeting residents of Angwan Rukuba. Reports indicate multiple casualties, though the exact number of victims remains unspecified. The incident has sparked significant unrest and concern among local communities.
Mr. Madugu advised students and staff to exercise caution, avoid unnecessary movement, and remain alert. He urged anyone who observes suspicious activities to report immediately to the university’s security unit via 08035895323.
The rescheduling decision aligns with safety measures adopted by the Plateau State Government, which imposed a 48-hour curfew on Jos North Local Government Area following the attack. Joyce Ramnap, the Commissioner for Information and Communications, confirmed the curfew in a statement on Monday.
University management said it is coordinating with security agencies to monitor the situation and guarantee the protection of staff and students as examinations are rearranged.
Students and parents have been urged to stay informed about new exam dates and related announcements, as the university continues to prioritize safety over academic schedules.
The University of Jos emphasized that the temporary disruption is necessary to prevent further harm and ensure that students can write examinations in a secure environment.
