Young Nigerians seeking opportunities in public leadership, governance and policy development have just five days left to apply for the 2026/2027 cohort of the Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy, one of Lagos State’s flagship leadership development initiatives for emerging changemakers.
The academy, established by the Lagos State Government, is designed to groom future leaders through intensive training, mentorship, policy engagement and direct exposure to governance processes within the public sector.
Applications for the new cohort are expected to close soon, with organisers encouraging ambitious young Nigerians passionate about leadership, innovation and nation building to take advantage of the opportunity.
Unlike conventional fellowship programmes, the Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy combines classroom learning with practical governance experience. Fellows are exposed to leadership development sessions, public policy discussions, institutional visits and direct interactions with senior government officials and industry leaders.
Named after former Lagos State Governor, Lateef Jakande, the academy was created to nurture a new generation of ethical, competent and solution driven leaders capable of contributing meaningfully to governance and national development.
Over the years, the programme has attracted applications from young professionals across different sectors, including law, technology, education, media, health, entrepreneurship and public administration.
Participants selected into the fellowship are expected to undergo months of structured leadership training while contributing to real government projects and policy conversations in Lagos State.
The academy has increasingly gained attention among young Nigerians interested in public service and governance, especially at a time when conversations around youth participation, leadership accountability and civic innovation continue to shape national discourse.
Organisers say the programme is targeted at young Nigerians who are not only passionate about change, but are also willing to understand governance systems, develop practical leadership skills and contribute to solving societal challenges.
Interested applicants are expected to complete their applications before the portal closes for the 2026/2027 intake.
