The Federal Government has intensified efforts to attract increased international investment into Nigeria’s education sector ahead of the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) Summit scheduled for September, where President Bola Tinubu is expected to serve as co-chair alongside Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, disclosed this after meeting with the Chairman of the Global Partnership for Education Board and former President of Tanzania, Dr. Jakaya Kikwete, as part of preparations for the summit.
According to the minister, the discussions focused on strengthening collaboration with global education partners and advancing reforms under the Nigeria Education Sector Renewal Initiative (NESRI), the Federal Government’s flagship education reform programme.
Alausa said the meeting provided an opportunity to review Nigeria’s progress in implementing education reforms and to deepen partnerships aimed at improving access to quality education across the country.
He noted that the upcoming summit will seek to mobilise greater international investment and strengthen global partnerships to support quality education, particularly in developing countries.
The minister explained that increased investment in education would translate into improved school infrastructure, better-equipped classrooms, enhanced teaching and learning materials, expanded teacher development programmes and a more conducive learning environment for Nigerian children.
He described the recognition of Nigeria’s ongoing education reforms by international partners as an indication that the country’s efforts are gaining global attention.
The Minister said, The Federal Ministry of Education, remains committed to implementing sustainable reforms, expanding international collaboration and ensuring that every Nigerian child has access to quality education in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda.
