The Vice-Chancellor of Osun State University (UNIOSUN), Professor Clement Adebooye, has warned newly admitted students of the institution to avoid cultism, cybercrime, examination malpractice and other forms of misconduct capable of ruining their academic careers.
Professor Adebooye gave the warning during the 2026/2027 matriculation ceremony for 493 students admitted into the University’s part-time degree programmes at its main campus in Osogbo. He reminded the new entrants that gaining admission into the institution comes with responsibilities as well as privileges.
The Vice-Chancellor said UNIOSUN remains committed to maintaining a disciplined academic environment and would continue to enforce its regulations without compromise against any student found guilty of violating the University’s code of conduct.
He stressed that the institution operates a zero-tolerance policy on all forms of anti-social behaviour, warning that offences such as cultism, examination malpractice, cybercrime, drug abuse, sexual harassment, violence, hooliganism, certificate fraud and other acts capable of tarnishing the University’s reputation would attract severe disciplinary sanctions.
According to him, students must uphold the values of honesty, discipline, responsibility and respect for constituted authority throughout their stay at the University, noting that these virtues are fundamental to academic success and future professional development.
Professor Adebooye urged the newly matriculated students to remain committed to their studies by attending lectures regularly, participating actively in academic activities and completing assignments diligently. He also encouraged them to build healthy relationships with lecturers and fellow students while taking full advantage of the University’s digital learning resources and student support services.
The Vice-Chancellor further advised the students to cultivate the habits of continuous learning, critical thinking and intellectual curiosity, explaining that the knowledge, skills and values they acquire at the University would shape their future careers and contributions to national development.
He assured the students that UNIOSUN would continue investing in initiatives aimed at improving the quality of teaching, learning and overall student experience, noting that the institution has continued to strengthen the academic programmes offered through its Centre for Part-Time and Advanced Studies.
Professor Adebooye reaffirmed the University’s determination to sustain its reputation as one of Nigeria’s leading institutions by maintaining high academic standards and promoting a culture of excellence, innovation and responsible citizenship.
Meanwhile, the Vice-Chancellor also challenged newly admitted postgraduate students of the University to pursue research capable of addressing pressing national and global challenges.
Speaking at the institution’s 11th postgraduate matriculation ceremony, he encouraged the students to remain focused, resilient and purposeful throughout their academic journey, assuring them that the demands of postgraduate education would prepare them for impactful careers in research, academia, industry and public service.
He reiterated that UNIOSUN remains committed to providing quality education and opportunities for intellectual growth but emphasised that students must equally uphold the institution’s rules and contribute positively to its academic community through discipline, ethical conduct and responsible behaviour.
