The Lagos State University (LASU) will on Wednesday, August 12, begin its combined 29th and 30th Convocation Ceremonies for graduands of the 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 academic sessions.
The ceremonies, scheduled to run until Sunday, August 23, will bring together graduands, their families, members of the university community and other stakeholders for a series of academic and ceremonial activities across the university’s campuses.
The programme will open on Wednesday with a convocation press conference scheduled for 10am at the First Floor of the Senate Chamber, Babatunde Raji Fashola Senate Building, Main Campus, Ojo.
A staff sports competition will also hold at the LASU Sports Centre later that day.
The convocation activities will continue on Thursday, August 13, with a Staff Celebration Day at the Buba Marwa Auditorium, followed by the Coconut Breaking and Cultural Day and a Jumat service on Friday, August 14.
The university will begin its academic degree-awarding ceremonies on Monday, August 17, with the presentation of diplomas, first degrees, postgraduate diplomas and master’s degrees in Engineering and Agricultural Sciences, alongside the conferment of Distinguished Professorships at the Olatunji Bello Auditorium, Epe Campus.
On Tuesday, August 18, LASU will hold its convocation lecture at the Buba Marwa Auditorium, followed by the award of other diplomas, first degrees, postgraduate diplomas and master’s degrees.
The programme will reach another major academic milestone on Wednesday, August 19, when the university will award professional and academic doctorate degrees, including PhDs, and confer honorary doctorate degrees.
The ceremonies will conclude on Sunday, August 23, with a special convocation thanksgiving service at the University Chapel, also known as the Chapel of Light.
The combined convocation represents a major academic milestone for LASU as the university formally celebrates graduates from two academic sessions.
For graduands, the university has also commenced preparations for certificate production. LASU recently directed eligible graduating students whose results were approved by Senate to complete their online biodata forms to facilitate certificate processing ahead of the ceremonies.
The 29th and 30th Convocation Ceremonies will therefore mark not only the formal conferment of academic qualifications on the affected graduands, but also one of the university’s major academic events of the year.
