The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) are set to strengthen their collaboration, particularly in the areas of data sharing, corps member mobilisation and service delivery.
The NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, disclosed this when he received the JAMB Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, Prof. Segun Aina, during a visit to the NYSC headquarters in Abuja.
Nafiu described JAMB as a key partner in the mobilisation of prospective corps members, noting that the examination body provides essential data used by the NYSC for its online registration process.
He commended JAMB for its cooperation with the scheme, particularly the existing system for electronic data exchange between both organisations.
The NYSC chief also congratulated Aina on his appointment as JAMB Registrar, noting that his previous experience as a corps member, including his service with JAMB, would be valuable in his new position.
Aina, in turn, called for closer cooperation between the two organisations to improve the experience and usefulness of corps members during their national service.
He said his own experience during the NYSC programme had influenced his professional development and shaped his career trajectory.
The JAMB registrar also said the board would maintain strict controls over requests for changes to candidates’ personal data in order to protect the integrity of its records.
However, he noted that genuine cases arising from NYSC mobilisation would continue to receive appropriate consideration within the board’s established procedures.
Aina disclosed plans for a new framework involving JAMB, NYSC and the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) to make legitimate data changes more efficient.
The framework, he said, would help improve coordination among the three agencies and simplify the process of resolving issues involving candidates’ records.
The JAMB chief further proposed deploying NYSC corps members to JAMB offices as customer service representatives.
According to him, the initiative would enable the board to engage more directly with young Nigerians and improve the way it communicates with candidates seeking its services.
The proposed deployment would also provide corps members with an opportunity to contribute to JAMB’s customer service operations while gaining additional workplace experience.
The planned collaboration comes as both agencies continue to rely increasingly on digital systems for data management, candidate registration and mobilisation processes.
