A student of Bells University of Technology, Ogun State, has called on the institution’s management to address alleged overcrowding, faulty door locks and poorly maintained toilets and bathrooms in his hostel.
In a self-recorded video shared on social media, the student displayed facilities he described as unsuitable for comfortable living and studying, questioning the accommodation provided despite the fees paid by residents.
According to him, his room’s door lock had remained faulty for about three weeks after he resumed, leaving him worried about the security of his belongings.
He said the situation forced him to carry his laptop whenever he left the hostel because he could not reliably secure the room.
The student also alleged that as many as 10 students shared a room, raising concerns about space and the adequacy of the facilities available to residents.
A central complaint concerned a toilet and bathroom that he said he and his roommates had contributed money to repair.

He alleged that the repaired toilet was subsequently locked by the university management, leaving residents unable to use it. He also showed another bathroom, which he described as being in poor condition, and questioned why it remained the available alternative.
The student urged management to explain the restriction and address outstanding repairs, particularly the defective lock on his room.
He further criticised the alleged conversion of staff lodges into student accommodation without adequate maintenance, calling for facilities assigned to students to be properly equipped and managed.
The video attracted differing reactions online. Some commenters supported his decision to speak publicly about student welfare, while others expressed concern about possible disciplinary consequences.
However, the account provided contains no verified evidence that the university threatened the student with expulsion or began disciplinary proceedings against him.
The student called for urgent intervention, maintaining that residents should have access to secure rooms and functional sanitary facilities.
The allegations have not been independently verified. No official response from Bells University of Technology was included in the material available for this report, leaving the institution’s position on the complaints and any remedial action unclear.
