A fire outbreak occurred this morning at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Teaching Hospital in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, resulting in significant damage to hospital property worth millions of naira.
The fire, which started around 5 a.m., engulfed the hospital’s Emergency and Accident Unit, particularly affecting the Pediatrics Consultant’s office. Reports from sources within the hospital revealed that office equipment, books, electronic devices, engines, and parts of the building’s structure, including the roof and ceiling, were destroyed in the blaze. It is believed that the fire was ignited by an electric spark.
Fortunately, swift action by hospital staff led to the evacuation of at least 16 patients from the affected wards, ensuring their safety. Despite the destructive impact of the fire, no casualties were reported. However, the incident has caused significant disruption to hospital activities.
In a statement to the press, Omotayo Ogunleye, the Public Relations Officer of LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, confirmed the fire incident, categorizing it as a “minor occurrence.” Ogunleye reassured the public that normal operations have resumed at the hospital following the incident.
Ogunleye stated, “Yes, it is true. It is a minor incident. But, normal activities have resumed in the hospital.”
