In a bid to enhance the quality of education in Sokoto State, Governor Ahmed Aliyu has approved a monthly maintenance allowance of 200,000 naira for secondary school principals in the state.
The announcement was made during the Sokoto State 2025 Citizens Budget Discussion held at the Sultan Abubakar Maccido Institute of Quranic and General Studies. Former deputy governor Chiso Abdullahi had appealed to the governor to provide funds for principals to carry out immediate maintenance work in schools without having to wait for government approval.
In response, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Abubakar Bawa, confirmed that the governor has agreed to allocate 200,000 naira to each secondary school principal in all 23 local government areas of the state every month. The allowance is set to commence in January 2025.
Furthermore, the governor has instructed the Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Dadi Adare, to review the allowances of traditional rulers in the state and make necessary adjustments to align with the current economic situation.
This move is aimed at improving the state of education and infrastructure in Sokoto State while ensuring that school principals and traditional rulers are adequately supported in their roles.
