The Federal Government has unveiled a series of projects valued at over N200 million, executed by the Alumni Association of the Federal Government Academy, Suleja, Niger State. The gesture is part of the association’s efforts to give back to the institution that shaped them.
Representing the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Alausa, during the commissioning, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Education, Dr. Nasir Sani-Gwarzo, praised the alumni for their remarkable contributions, describing the projects as a testament to the enduring legacy of the academy, which has nurtured some of Nigeria’s brightest talents since its inception.
The Federal Government Academy, Suleja, established on May 25, 1990, during the tenure of Professor Jubril Aminu as Minister of Education, is a special school designed to identify and develop gifted children for the nation’s technological and economic progress.
The commissioned projects include renovated male and female hostels, a modernized school clinic, solar power installation, new toilet facilities, and improved water reticulation systems. These facilities aim to create a conducive learning environment for students.
Speaking at the event, Sani-Gwarzo, represented by the Director of Secondary Education, Binta Abdulkadir, highlighted the significance of the alumni’s gesture. “Today is more than just the commissioning of structures. It represents the gratitude and commitment of alumni who have returned to support the institution that played a pivotal role in shaping their futures,” he said.
He commended the Federal Government Academy for consistently fostering excellence among gifted students, noting that the alumni’s contributions are proof of the academy’s positive impact. “Your contributions inspire current students, showing that the values of hard work, service, and patriotism taught here are alive in the lives of graduates,” he added.
The school’s principal, Ismau Abdullahi, expressed appreciation for the alumni’s support, assuring them that the facilities would be well-maintained to benefit the students and staff. She also revealed that the investment was led by the 2004 set, with support from other alumni.
Students of the academy also acknowledged that the major challenges of electricity and water supply have been addressed through the installation of solar power and improved water systems.
President of the Alumni Association, Dapo Adesina, stated that the projects demonstrate the collective commitment of past students to contribute meaningfully to their alma mater and enhance the educational experience for current and future generations.
The Federal Government Academy, Suleja, continues to serve as a beacon of hope, producing leaders equipped with the skills and knowledge to drive national and global excellence.
