In a bid to ensure uninterrupted academic activities across Nigeria’s educational institutions, the Minister for Education, Dr. Olatunji Alausa, has pledged to work collaboratively with all labor unions in the education sector to prevent industrial actions in 2025.
Speaking during an interview, Dr. Alausa assured Nigerians that the government is committed to fostering harmonious relationships with unions such as the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU). “We will do everything within our power to work with all the labor unions in the education sector, engage them, and make sure there will be no strike in 2025,” he stated.
The Minister emphasized his willingness to maintain open communication lines with union leaders. “I will answer their calls anytime they call me. Dialogue and collaboration are key to resolving any issues that may arise,” he added.
Dr. Alausa acknowledged the long-standing grievances of unions, particularly ASUU, attributing previous conflicts to the failure of past administrations to honor agreements. “ASUU are good people. The issue has always been that previous governments did not fulfill their part of the agreements,” he said.
Under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, however, the Federal Government is adopting a proactive approach. “We are working with all the unions to address those agreements and meet them within what is acceptable,” Dr. Alausa explained.
This announcement comes as a relief to students, parents, and other stakeholders who have long endured disruptions in the academic calendar due to strikes. The Minister’s commitment to a strike-free academic year reflects the administration’s focus on stability and progress in the education sector.
With these assurances, expectations are high for a productive and uninterrupted 2025 academic year in Nigeria’s schools and universities.
