The 29th Convocation Ceremony of Ekiti State University (EKSU) was marked by solemn reflection and resounding hope as Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji addressed the academic congregation. The governor began his speech by requesting a moment of silence to honor the passing of the wife of the university’s Chancellor, acknowledging the profound loss suffered by the institution’s leadership.
Dignitaries from across Nigeria graced the ceremony, including Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Senate Leader Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, the Deputy Senate President, esteemed senators, members of the university’s governing council, Pro-Chancellor and Council Chairman Professor Akin Oyebode, Vice-Chancellor Professor Joseph Babatola, the Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, prominent traditional rulers, and other distinguished vice-chancellors.
In his address, Governor Oyebanji extended heartfelt congratulations to the graduating students, applauding their perseverance, resilience, and hard work. He charged them to embrace the future with courage and innovation. “You have demonstrated immense dedication to earn this degree. As you step into the world, let your creativity and problem-solving skills be your compass,” he urged.
The governor underscored the importance of education in societal development, reiterating his administration’s unwavering commitment to enhancing the quality of education in Ekiti State. “Education is the bedrock of any prosperous society. We are resolute in our efforts to provide a learning environment that fosters excellence, innovation, and progress,” he declared.

Further, he lauded Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele for his outstanding contributions to national development, particularly in the education sector. “Senator Bamidele has continually distinguished himself in leadership and governance. His dedication to educational advancement is commendable, and we celebrate his ongoing projects, including the Medical Hostel initiative on this campus,” the governor said.
Governor Oyebanji also showered accolades on the university’s governing council, led by Professor Akin Oyebode, for their steadfast commitment to improving the institution. “The tireless efforts of this council in elevating the university’s standards have not gone unnoticed. Your hard work is shaping the future of this institution, and for that, we are deeply grateful,” he stated.
Turning his attention back to the graduates, the governor encouraged them to be exemplary ambassadors of Ekiti State University and to apply their acquired knowledge for the betterment of society. “Go into the world with confidence. Let integrity and innovation define your path. The challenges you encounter should be seen as opportunities to make a difference,” he advised.
