The management of Emmanuel Alayande University of Education (EAUED), Oyo, has expressed strong interest in building a strategic mentorship relationship with Lagos State University (LASU), in a bid to elevate its systems and infrastructure toward national academic excellence.
This move followed a high-level visit by a LASU delegation led by Prof. M.O.B. Mohammed, Director of the Centre for General Nigerian Studies, to Emmanuel Alayande University. The visit aimed to introduce LASU’s homegrown GNS E-learning platform and explore collaboration on examination management and academic digitization.
Receiving the LASU team, Prof. Olanrewaju Ademola Olaniyan, Vice Chancellor of EAUED, described the Lagos-based university as a model of academic and administrative excellence. He stated the readiness of his institution to understudy LASU, adding that he personally admired the leadership of Prof. Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, LASU’s Vice Chancellor and Chairperson of the Committee of State University Vice Chancellors.
“We are willing to learn from LASU because we don’t want to make mistakes. Their achievements speak for themselves, and it is clear that we can gain a lot by allowing them to mentor us,” Prof. Olaniyan said during the meeting.
He praised the innovation behind LASU’s GNS E-learning platform, emphasizing that such technology would be of immense benefit to EAUED in managing large-scale examinations efficiently. He assured the visiting team that the proposal would be forwarded to the university management for proper review and speedy consideration.
Prof. M.O.B. Mohammed, who led the LASU delegation, traced the origin of the proposed collaboration to his recent visit to EAUED, where he delivered the keynote address at the university’s inaugural education conference. Following that event, he was approached by Prof. Ibrahim Olatunde Salawu, EAUED’s Deputy Vice Chancellor, to initiate further discussions.
Mohammed explained that LASU had successfully reduced the stress and costs associated with organizing GNS exams for over 50,000 students using the digital platform. He noted that benefits include savings on manpower, reduced pressure on infrastructure, and timely delivery of results.
The LASU team also included Dr. Adewale Mustapha, Assistant Director, Directorate of ICT; Mr. Ademola Adekoya, Deputy Registrar/Administrative Secretary at CGNS; and Mr. Sunday Fanu, Senior Assistant Registrar from LASU’s Legal Unit. They engaged with various staff and toured key facilities at EAUED, including the ICT Centre and Adekunle Ogunmola Library.
During a follow-up session presided over by Prof. Salawu, findings from the tour were presented, and LASU team members shared recommendations on optimizing technology and human resources at EAUED. They acknowledged the university’s rapid development despite being newly established.
In response, EAUED officials expressed eagerness to push the collaboration forward. Those present at the session included Mrs. Olubunmi Amoo, Registrar; Dr. Oluremi Akande, Director of GSP; Dr. Ademola Atanda, Director of Research; Mr. Sola Ayoade, Senior Lecturer in Computer Science; Mr. Wale Adeoye, Public Relations Officer; Mr. J.O. Jeminiwa and Mr. A. Bashiru from the ICT Unit; and Miss Ife Olatunde from the Legal Department.
Prof. Mohammed concluded by affirming LASU’s readiness to support Emmanuel Alayande University of Education in reaching its full potential, provided the institution remains committed to embracing innovation and global best practices.
With the groundwork laid, both universities are optimistic that the collaboration will mark the beginning of a transformative journey, positioning EAUED as a rising force in Nigeria’s higher education landscape.
