Redeemer’s University, Ede, Osun State, has joined the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU), placing the Nigerian institution within one of the world’s largest international networks of universities and further expanding its engagement with the global higher education community.
The development marks another step in the university’s efforts to strengthen international partnerships, widen opportunities for its academic community and position the institution for greater participation in global conversations on higher education, research, innovation and societal development.
The ACU brings together about 400 universities across 40 Commonwealth countries, providing member institutions with opportunities for collaboration, knowledge exchange, professional development and engagement on issues affecting higher education and society.
Reacting to the development, the Vice-Chancellor of Redeemer’s University, Professor Shadrach Olufemi Akindele, described the university’s admission into the association as a significant milestone in its pursuit of academic excellence, innovation and global impact.
According to him, the membership reflects the progress being made by the university in its drive towards global excellence and provides an additional platform for showcasing the quality of its scholarship, its people and its contributions to society.
Akindele said Redeemer’s University was building an institution that would not only be distinguished by academic excellence but would also participate confidently in collaborations and discussions capable of producing solutions to challenges within the Commonwealth and beyond.
The university’s membership also creates opportunities for greater institutional engagement with other universities within the Commonwealth network. Such connections can facilitate the exchange of knowledge and best practices, while providing avenues for strategic academic and research partnerships.
Another significant benefit is access to opportunities for staff and students to apply for funding and participate in ACU-led programmes and projects. Such opportunities could strengthen research collaboration, academic development, professional exposure and international experience within the university community.
