The Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU), Professor Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, has warmly welcomed students of the institution back to campus for the commencement of the second semester of the 2024/2025 academic session. Her address, delivered through the university’s official communication platforms on Monday morning, carried a tone of optimism, encouragement, and resolute academic focus.
“My world-class students,” Professor Olatunji-Bello began, “I am delighted to welcome you back for the second semester of the 2024/2025 academic session after about four (4) weeks of well-deserved rest from academic rigours.” The Vice-Chancellor emphasized that the joy of resumption was shared by all segments of the university. “It’s not just me; every member of our dedicated teaching and non-teaching staff is excited to have you back on our beautiful campus.”
She painted a vibrant picture of the campus coming back to life with student activity. “Our classrooms, lecture theatres, laboratories, and libraries are once again coming alive with your vibrant and warm presence,” she said. This statement captured the essence of LASU’s student-centric approach and reinforced the importance of community in academic spaces.
Turning to the importance of wise decision-making, Professor Olatunji-Bello advised students to be strategic with their time and resources. “As you begin this new semester, I urge you to place greater value on your time on campus than ever before. Starting a new semester today means you are one step closer to completing your journey at LASU, one less semester to raise your CGPA, one less semester to make mistakes or to correct them.”
She warned against time-wasting and emphasized self-discipline, noting, “Time is indeed a precious resource; use it wisely. Dedicate yourself fully to your studies. Choose your associations carefully, manage your limited resources prudently, and let wisdom guide your every action.” Her message placed clear expectations on students to maintain focus while navigating academic and social life.
Addressing the intellectual rigor required of university life, the Vice-Chancellor encouraged students to embrace critical thinking. “Remember, true scholarship involves asking difficult questions, some of which may not have easy answers. It means following paths that may not always lead to immediate results, and exploring with a depth and rigour that demands both discipline and persistence.”
In her closing words, she extended heartfelt wishes to the entire student body. “So I encourage you: ask questions, seek knowledge relentlessly, and never be afraid to learn more. May you find success in this new chapter. Amen.”
Reaffirming the institution’s identity and pride, Professor Olatunji-Bello concluded with a familiar and powerful rallying cry: “We are LASU, We are Great!” Her message served not only as a welcome but as a call to excellence and responsibility for every student returning to the university this semester.
