Chief Gaius Chibueze, popularly known as “Bitcoin Chief” and founder of Voice of the East, gave a detailed update on the life of Mmesoma Ejikeme—the teenage girl at the center of the 2023 JAMB result controversy. The statement came amidst fresh allegations of technical glitches affecting JAMB results, sparking renewed conversations around the fairness and transparency of Nigeria’s examination systems.

“This public statement has become necessary as many people have been asking about the whereabouts of Mmesoma,” Chibueze began, “especially following recent reports of JAMB result glitches affecting several students from the Southeast.” He emphasized that it was important to revisit the controversy that saw a young girl dragged through public scrutiny, banned for three years from sitting the JAMB exams, and ultimately left stranded in her educational pursuit.

Recalling the incident, Chibueze stated, “In 2023, Mmesoma, a young girl living in Anambra State, was accused of tampering with her JAMB result.” The accusation made national headlines, triggering debates over her innocence, data security, and ethnic bias. “Like many Nigerians, I found it difficult to believe that such a young girl could be capable of what JAMB alleged. I publicly called for a thorough investigation to ascertain the truth,” he wrote.

Following the uproar and the eventual decision by JAMB to ban Mmesoma from registering for the UTME for three years, Chibueze decided to intervene. “Due to the tribal rhetoric and public ridicule that followed the incident and in light of JAMB’s decision to ban her… I made a commitment to sponsor her education abroad.” According to him, this was not just a gesture of charity but a moral obligation to help a young girl whom society had failed.

Chibueze’s support went far beyond words. “I sent my manager at Voice of the East, Mr. Lottana, to Anambra State to locate Mmesoma and her family. The same day he met them, I bought her a mobile phone, as she didn’t have one at the time,” he revealed. He went further: “I assured her parents I would adopt her and take full responsibility for her education and welfare.”

He meticulously outlined the extensive support he has provided since then: “I placed her on a monthly allowance of ₦30,000… I sponsored her international passport… I contacted KB Travels… Eventually, she got admission to a university in Texas.” Unfortunately, she was denied a U.S. visa despite the use of the express option, accommodations in Lagos, and paying a visa coach. Still determined, he said, “I immediately paid for a Canadian school application and covered the cost of IELTS… Canadian schools did not offer her admission.”

Even after repeated visa and admission rejections, Chibueze refused to give up. “I hired a second agent to pursue European university applications, which sadly led to repeated rejections,” he explained. Throughout the ordeal, he continued to support the family. “I gave her father over ₦1 million to support his struggling music business. I also helped her mother through financial difficulties.” He didn’t stop there. “When the family decided to relocate… I paid for them to find and secure a new home in Topland, Enugu, covering a year’s rent and agency fees totaling over ₦2 million.”

Chibueze also invested in Mmesoma’s digital and financial literacy. “I bought her a laptop and paid someone to teach her coding. I encouraged her to learn options trading, gave her startup capital, and bought her another phone.” His mentorship bore fruit: “She later made over $3,000 in profit from trading, withdrew part of it, and opened a shop for her mother. I also paid for another shop for her father in Enugu.”

In December 2024, he had a face-to-face reunion with the family. “During my first visit to Enugu in nine years, I personally visited their home, spent time with them, and brought gifts,” he said. “Her parents were deeply appreciative of the visit and the continued support.” Through it all, Chibueze’s support has been consistent and selfless. “Everything I have done and continue to do is in good faith, with no expectations other than to help a young girl who had been thrown into a national controversy.”

While many wondered what became of Mmesoma, the statement confirmed that she is safe. “As of our last communication, Mmesoma is doing well and living with her family in Topland, Enugu State.” He emphasized the need for transparency: “I am sharing this update publicly with supporting evidence because, as a public figure, people deserve clarity.”

In a sharp criticism of JAMB and the system that condemned Mmesoma, Chibueze remarked, “JAMB has just falsified the results of thousands of teenagers/youths. Mmesoma falsified 1. JAMB should be banned forever.” He continued, “To even say they called DSS for this young lady then for exam results,” expressing disbelief at the extremity of the response at the time. “Up till now, nobody has resigned. They’re there crying on national TV. Maybe if this girl had committed suicide then… that one would slide too.”

He scoffed at the excuses being made in recent times: “Glitches koo… glitches ni,” using sarcasm to challenge the integrity of JAMB’s systems, especially after years of blaming Mmesoma for what may have been systemic failure. The recent reports of result glitches, he implied, validate what many suspected during the 2023 incident — that Mmesoma may not have been entirely at fault.

Chibueze concluded the statement with an invitation for people to reach out with inquiries or support. “Attached is all schools related during this period and also she can be contacted through her personal email attached — Joymmesomaejikeme@gmail.com.” With this, he reaffirmed his commitment to transparency and accountability, stressing that the matter should not be forgotten.
