As the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) prepares for its forthcoming Post-UTME screening exercise, prospective candidates across Nigeria are gearing up to secure a place in one of the country’s most competitive federal universities. The screening, which is mandatory for all UTME applicants who selected UNIPORT as their first choice, is expected to take place between July and August.
The Post-UTME examination at UNIPORT is a Computer-Based Test (CBT), meaning candidates will be assessed digitally rather than with the traditional paper and pen method. This shift towards technology ensures a faster and more efficient evaluation process. Candidates are advised to familiarize themselves with the CBT format ahead of the exam to avoid panic during the test.
Each candidate will be expected to answer 50 objective questions within 30 minutes, making time management a crucial factor in success. According to information obtained from UNIPORT’s admissions office, each question carries 8 marks, bringing the total score to 400, which aligns with the same grading system used in the UTME administered by JAMB.
Interestingly, results are made available immediately after submission. “You see your result the moment you click the ‘submit’ button,” a recent candidate, Joseph Okonkwo, told The Nigeria Education News. “It was a relief to know how I performed right away,” he added, describing the system as transparent and stress-free.
UNIPORT has designated three main venues for the Post-UTME exams: the Ashgrove Academy, the Basic Building, and the ICTC Building on campus. Candidates are usually assigned to one of these centres based on their faculty or departmental choice. It is essential to check the assigned venue and exam schedule as released in the university’s screening slip.
Though the questions may appear simple, past candidates have warned that success depends largely on preparation. “Don’t be deceived — the questions are not difficult if you study well. But if you come unprepared, the time pressure alone can defeat you,” said Chidera, a 100-level student in the Faculty of Education.
In terms of timing, the screening usually takes place during the mid-year admission cycle, particularly in July or August. Candidates are strongly advised to monitor the official UNIPORT website and social media platforms for the release of the exam date, registration deadlines, and other official communications.
In summary, UNIPORT’s Post-UTME is structured to be fair, quick, and transparent — but only those who prepare diligently can expect to pass comfortably. Candidates should prioritize practice, revise past questions, and ensure their familiarity with the CBT interface. As the race for university admission heats up, those who combine hard work with strategic preparation stand the best chance of success.
