The management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State, has disclaimed any affiliation with a man who died after jumping from a three-storey building in the Ifite-Awka area.
The deceased, identified as Kenneth Oyeaka Rapuchukwu, reportedly jumped from a residential facility known as Seat of Wisdom Lodge on Wednesday, June 5, 2025, after allegedly consuming a suspected illicit substance.
However, in a statement issued by the university’s Head of Information, Public Relations and Protocol, Mr Louis Njelita, the institution stated unequivocally that Rapuchukwu was not a student of the university.
“The attention of the management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, has been drawn to a tragic incident involving one Mr Kenneth Oyeaka Rapuchukwu, a 28-year-old electrician from Aguleri,” the statement read.
“The man was said to have jumped from a three-storey building known as Seat of Wisdom Lodge after allegedly consuming an illicit substance. Contrary to information circulating on social media, investigations reveal that Mr Rapuchukwu is not a student of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.”
The statement further disclosed that the remains of the deceased have been deposited at a mortuary, while security agencies have commenced investigations into the circumstances surrounding his death.
It added that the university’s Centre for Counselling and Career Development is adequately equipped to address psychological and substance-related challenges, making it unlikely that the deceased was affiliated with the institution.
The management appealed to the public to remain calm and cooperate with the ongoing investigation.
