Students of the Kano-China Bilingual College in Madobi impressed Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, during his official visit to the institution on Saturday when they confidently addressed him in fluent Chinese.
Governor Yusuf has directed the immediate renovation of two abandoned bilingual colleges in Kwankwaso town, Madobi Local Government Area, as part of a broader plan to revive Kano’s international education and diplomatic links.
The schools, established during the administration of former governor Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso to teach Mandarin and French, had fallen into neglect under the previous administration. The governor issued the directive during an unscheduled inspection of the facilities.
In a statement released on Sunday, Governor Yusuf’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, quoted the governor expressing dissatisfaction with the schools’ dilapidated state.
“The condition of these institutions is unacceptable. They were set up with a clear vision to equip our young people with internationally relevant language skills, and we will not allow that vision to be wasted,” he said.
Describing the institutions as strategic to Kano’s global commercial identity, the governor assured that renovation and upgrades would commence immediately to restore their purpose.
Governor Yusuf also announced a scholarship scheme to sponsor top-performing students from the bilingual colleges for further studies in China and France.
“We will support our outstanding students to pursue advanced education abroad. This will enhance their prospects and prepare them as global citizens who can contribute meaningfully to Kano’s socio-economic development,” he added.
The governor stressed that fluency in Mandarin and French would provide Kano’s youth with a significant advantage in international commerce and diplomacy.
Two students, Muhammad Bawa and Muhammad Warawa, welcomed the governor’s visit and praised the planned interventions as encouraging steps toward improving their academic futures.
Governor Yusuf’s visit is part of his administration’s wider agenda to reposition Kano as a hub of educational excellence and economic growth, anchored on strong international partnerships.
