The Students’ Union Government of the University of Ilorin has unveiled its major capital project—a set of solar-powered sit-out spaces—marking a key milestone in its Smart-Purposed Administration.
The project, officially commissioned by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Wahab Egbewole, SAN, on July 4, 2025, coincided with the one-year anniversary of the union’s election into office. The sit-outs are located at the university’s Main Campus and at the College of Health Sciences.
Speaking at the event, the President of the Student Union emphasised that the project was a direct response to student needs and daily experiences. He noted that welfare and infrastructure had remained central to the administration’s priorities throughout its tenure.
“This project, like many others, was born out of your feedback,” the President said. “From welfare to infrastructure, our focus has always been on making life easier, safer, and more conducive for every Unilorite across all campuses.”
He acknowledged the presence of the Vice Chancellor and other principal officers at the commissioning as a powerful symbol of institutional support for student-led initiatives. He also expressed appreciation to the university management for backing the union’s efforts throughout its ten-month tenure.
“To every Unilorite who believed, complained, suggested, and hoped—this is your win,” he added. “These sit-outs are more than structures. They are a reflection of a Union that listens, learns, and leads with purpose. We have served you with sincerity, and we are grateful.”
The unveiling ceremony was attended by members of the university management, student leaders, and representatives from various faculties and campuses.
The Smart-Purposed Administration says it will continue to implement initiatives that reflect the evolving needs of the student body, reinforcing its legacy of responsive and purposeful leadership.
