The Bauchi State Government has approved the immediate dismissal of the Acting Bursar of Sa’adu Zungur University (SAZU), Gadau, Mr. Ayuba Mohammed Gital, over alleged irregularities surrounding his appointment.
Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed announced the decision on Tuesday while receiving the report of the Visitation Panel set up to address lingering industrial disputes and other operational challenges at the institution.
In addition to the bursar’s dismissal, the government said it would constitute an audit committee to investigate the university’s financial operations, with specific focus on revenues generated from students and other internal sources.
Governor Mohammed noted that although the government had previously adopted a non-interference stance regarding the institution’s finances, the revelations contained in the panel’s report warranted immediate and decisive action to ensure transparency and accountability.
“We are committed to repositioning Sa’adu Zungur University to meet global standards. This report has provided us with a clear roadmap for the necessary reforms,” the governor said, adding that the report would be presented to the State Executive Council for consideration and appropriate action.
Presenting the report, Chairperson of the Visitation Panel, Professor Gambo Laraba Abdullahi, said the panel engaged extensively with key stakeholders, received numerous memoranda, and conducted facility inspections across the university’s three campuses.
She expressed appreciation to the government for the opportunity to serve and emphasised the importance of implementing the panel’s recommendations to restore stability and improve the institution’s academic and administrative performance.
