Jigawa State has unveiled a major education reform effort in collaboration with NewGlobe, a global education solutions provider, through the launch of the JigawaUNITE initiative—an ambitious, technology-driven program aimed at reversing the state’s deepening literacy crisis.
According to current education data, seven out of every eight children in Jigawa are unable to read or write in either English or Hausa. This stark reality persists despite the state government’s significant commitment to the education sector, including a ₦120 billion allocation in the 2025 budget. The JigawaUNITE initiative seeks to address this learning gap by deploying evidence-based, data-driven strategies to improve foundational literacy and numeracy across the state’s public schools.
Speaking on the partnership, Jay Kimmelman, Group Chief Executive Officer of NewGlobe, described the initiative as a decisive step towards empowering the next generation. “Education is the foundation of lasting prosperity. It is the surest path to economic growth and societal progress,” he said. “JigawaUNITE is more than just an initiative—it is a movement to empower children, support teachers, and enable communities to thrive.”
The first phase of the program will roll out in over 1,000 public schools, deploying NewGlobe’s advanced learning platform to support teachers with real-time data and instructional tools. The aim is to ensure that children not only attend school but also acquire the foundational skills needed to succeed in life.
The initiative marks a strategic pivot by the Jigawa State Government toward large-scale, technology-enabled reform—moving beyond traditional investments to embrace innovative solutions that focus on results and systemic change. With an emphasis on learning outcomes and accountability, the program will track student performance through digital tools and feedback loops, enabling timely interventions and continuous teacher support.
